The video of the incident spread on social media

Police are trying to arrest two teenagers for sexually harassing their female classmate in Barguna’s Pathorghata upazila and spreading a video on “TikTok”.

A case was filed in this regard on Saturday accusing the duo, who are students of class eight at the same school.

District Additional Superintendent of Police Tofail Ahmed Sarkar confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune on Sunday.

The victim, a teenage schoolgirl, told reporters: “The accused boy used to harass me on the streets for a long time. On the day of the incident [Wednesday], after the school ended, he went out with my schoolbag. When I approached him for the bag, he sexually assaulted me. Then another classmate [close to the accused] secretly videotaped the incident.”

The accused later spread the video on “TikTok”. Although she did not tell anyone about the incident at first, her mother was informed about it on Friday after a neighbour noticed the video.

It was learned that the victim’s family did not get any solution even after complaining to the boy’s uncle about a year ago.

When the matter of the recent harassment was reported to the headmaster of the school, he said he would consider the matter and told her family to wait until evening. But he failed to contact the family of the accused.

Later, the parents went to Pathorghata police station around 9pm on Friday but they did not get any help from the police.

The girl later threatened to commit suicide.

After the news of the incident was circulated on various social media, Pathorghata police station OC Abul Bashar called the girl’s mother to the police station and accepted the case.

Additional Superintendent of Police Tofail Hossain Sarkar said: “The victim’s mother filed a case against two of the girl’s classmates at 10:30pm on Saturday. Attempts are being made to take legal action against the accused on the instructions of the district police superintendent.”

Meanwhile, the accused student’s uncle Yusuf said: “I have not been able to find my nephew since the incident. Find him first and then the problem will be solved. When I went to the police station to find my nephew, the police did not take any case or general diary.”
