Gibson admitted the his bowlers will face an extremely strong batting lineup
Bangladesh blowing Ottis Gibson emphasized on the need of fearless bowling when they take on England in their second game in Group 1 of the Super-12 stage of ICC T20 World Cup at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday.
Coach emphasizes bowling. Gibson, who is likely to bring in tips in the Bangladesh dressing of having worked with England in two terms – from 2007 to 2010 and again from 2015 to 2017- admitted the his bowlers will face an extremely strong batting lineup. The positive for Bangladesh however comes in England losing four wickets chasing a small target in their previous game.
England had a flying start to the tournament defeating defending champions West Indies by six wickets at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Saturday. The English side had first restricted Windies to only 55 runs but then lost four wickets chasing the petty total.
“We know that England are a very powerful lineup, and we know that we have to be on our top game if we’re going to really challenge them and ultimately win the game. It’s something that we spoke about last night in our team meetings, and we will have the opportunity today at practice to practice some of the things that came up at that meeting in terms of our delivery,” said Gibson to the media at a virtual press conference in Dubai on Tuesday.
“The key thing for us is to be accurate in what we’re going to deliver and back ourselves. We know that they’re going to come out hard, but we know that they also give you chances. They were chasing only 55 against the West Indies, and they lost four wickets. So that’s something we can use as a positive. We know we must be at our best, but we know they will give us opportunities to take wickets,” the former Windies bowler added.
Gibson is in strong opinion that Bangladesh have all that needs in its pace bowling unit to go against tournament favorites England. Bangladesh have a good mix of strengths coming from Mustafizur Rahman, Mohammad Saifuddin, Taskin Ahmed and Shoriful Islam but it will eventually depend on the selection to what option to go with said Gibson.
“We have to see the conditions first, but what we have got here, and I’ve said this from the beginning of the tournament, what we have got here is we’ve got all bases covered. We’ve got the skill and the cutters or whatever of Mustafizur. We’ve got the depth bowling of Saifuddin, and we’ve got the pace of Taskin. We’ve also got the pace, the left-handed variety of Shoriful in our squad.
“So the captain and the coach, the electors that pick the 11 that goes on the field, they have the opportunity to look at all those options and then choose what they think is the best options to win the match. Conditions will depend on what 11 goes out on the pitch. But as far as our bowling is concerned, we’ve got all our bases covered with the guys we have here,” said the Bangladesh fast bowling coach.
