Indian singer KK dead at 53

He was performing live during a ceremony in Kolkata.

Indian singer Krishnakumar Kunnath, popularly known as KK, passed away after falling ill.

While performing at an event in Kolkata on Tuesday.

KK passed away just 53.

He suddenly fell ill at the event and returned to his hotel.

When his condition deteriorated, he was rushed to the CMRI hospital in Kolkata.

Where he was declared brought dead, reports The Indian Express.

It’s unfortunate that we could not treat him, a senior official of the hospital said.

KK had been performing at Nazrul Mancha for Gurudas College’s fest when he took ill.

His wife and two sons will fly into Kolkata Wednesday morning.

KK performed at two back-to-back shows in Kolkata in the past two days.

He was born in Delhi and was also known for his electric live shows.

His Instagram page had been sharing updates from his concert in Kolkata as recently as eight hours ago.

KK is known for songs like ‘Pal’ and ‘Yaaron’, which went on to become big hits among teens.

The late 1990s, often heard during school and college farewells and teen cultural events.

KK released his first album, Pal in 1999.

The singer-composer focused more on Bollywood than on his independent music.

The hits song such as Tadap Tadap (Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, 1999), Dus Bahane (Dus, 2005), and Tune Maari Entriyaan (Gunday, 2014). 

His 1999 debut album Pal was critically acclaimed.

From the early 2000s, he blazed a career in playback singing and recorded a wide range of popular songs for Bollywood films.

He recorded songs in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi and Bengali, among other languages.

KK’s sudden death has shattered the fraternity members and many took to social media, expressing their grief over the news. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted: Saddened by the untimely demise of noted singer Krishnakumar Kunnath popularly known as KK.

His songs reflected a wide range of emotions as struck a chord with people of all age groups.

We will always remember him through his songs. Condolences to his family and fans. Om Shanti.

Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar called KK’s death a big loss.

He wrote on Twitter: Extremely sad and shocked to know of the sad demise of KK. What a loss! Om Shanti.

West Bengal actor Swastika Mukherjee also condoled his death, KK passed away.

Can’t believe what I just heard.

Singer Rahul Vaidya said he was ‘beyond shocked’ at the news of KK’s death.

He tweeted: “I hear singer KK just passed away.

GOD what is really happening!! I mean WHAT IS HAPPENING. One of the nicest humans kk sir was.

Gone too soon at 53. Beyond shocked. RIP sir.

Singer Harshdeep Kaur tweeted, Just can’t believe that our beloved #KK is no more.

This really can’t be true. The voice of love has gone.

This is heartbreaking.

Cricketer Virender Sehwag also paid his condolences to KK’s family.

The Mesmerizer, which details KK’s discography and memoir, describes him as a versatile singer.

Who has produced many unforgettable and everlasting songs.

To name a few, the effervescent “Khuda Jaane”, romantic numbers like.

Tu Hi Meri Shab Hai and “Awarapan Banjarapan and melancholic.
