Society will benefit if journalists work fearlessly, says Dr Hasan Mahmud

Congratulating this year’s two Nobel Peace Prize-winning journalists, Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud on Sunday said the country, society and the state benefit if journalists work fearlessly by maintaining objectivity.

“The two journalists — Maria Ressa of the Philippines and Dmitry Muratov of Russia — won this year’s Nobel Peace Prize after 86 years. For this, they deserve congratulations from everyone. All journalists across the globe will get inspiration as the two journalists have set up an example of divulging truth braving all fears and greed,” he said.ter

The minister was talking to newsmen after handing over the key of a vehicle to Brahmanbaria Press Club at an auditorium of Dhaka Club on Sunday evening, reports BSS.

State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr Murad Hasan, Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Civil Aviation and Tourism and wounded freedom fighter RAM Obaidul Moktadir Chowdhury spoke at the function as special guests with Member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Information and Broadcasting Mohammad Abadul Karim in the chair.

Earlier at the function, Hasan, also Awami League joint general secretary, said journalists have the power to publish the miseries of people.

Journalists from the marginal level can play a pivotal role to this end and help the country, the society and the state, he added.

Murad welcomed the initiative of providing vehicle to journalists, saying Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has set up an example before the world in combating the Covid-19 epidemic.

Abadul praised the role of journalists of Brahmanbaria.

Later, the minister handed over the key of the vehicle to Brahmanbaria Press Club President Riaz Uddin.
