Make Eid-time travel

A severe lack of maintenance on the part of the authorities concerned.

Travelling to other parts of the country during Eid is a long-held tradition for Banglashis, especially those of us living in Dhaka.

However, the exact process of making travel arrangements is often slow and inefficient at best and downright broken at worst.

As the relevant transport authorities have been letting people down repeatedly through not planning.

Or investing in infrastructure properly, or failing to keep their promises.

More recently, increasing the number of ferries and launches available at the Daulatdia ghat to ensure.

A smooth flow of passengers is another one of the numerous broken promises that Eid-time travellers will have to deal with this year.

After two years of weathering the Covid-19 storm and confining ourselves to our homes, this is an incredibly disappointing state of affairs.

The officials of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) and Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) earlier announced the provision of 21 more ferries.

And 33 more launches, but due to three fleets breaking down, there are only 17 small and large ferries in operation now.

This points to a severe lack of maintenance on the part of the authorities concerned.

Add to that the fact the road towards the pier in Daulatdia has been damaged in the last flood.

And people have to navigate the port using wooden and bamboo bridges and the direness of the situation gets understood.

In fact, this is the situation in a majority of river crossings, ports, and bridges the main culprits in our connectivity infrastructure.

Even without Eid, it is shameful that the connectivity between districts is so bad.

And all the money in the world is not worth it if people cannot spend Eid properly.

The authorities have to look at the whole connectivity apparatus, identify weak points like Daulatdia ghat, and fix them.

Director Faisal Ahmed’s 2021 action-thriller Mission Extreme will be broadcast on Eid day at 2pm on Deepto TV.

The film features a star-studded cast, including Arifin Shuvooo, Taskeen Rahman, Sadia Nabila, Jannan Ferdous Oishee, Shatabdi Wadud and others.

After bringing down the man behind the Dhaka Attack, Head of Bomb Disposal Unit.

Abid Rahman learns that an invisible threat still hovering over Bangladesh, reads the official synopsis.

The cast includes Miss World Bangladesh 2018, Jannatul Ferdous Oishee, Rashed Mamun Apu.
