Jamalpur village home: People in Jamalpur’s Sarishabari upazila staged joyful processions and distributed sweets on Tuesday morning after learning that State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Murad Hassan had been asked to resign.
At Muktijoddha Chottor in the Upazila, some participants also burned an effigy of Murad, the MP from Jamalpur 4 constituency.
For his offensive and derogatory remarks that sparked waves of criticism, the prime minister had directed the state minister to resign.
Murad later submitted his letter of resignation from the Cabinet in accordance with the prime minister’s directive.
A section of leaders of the local AL and its front organisations were seen joining the processions, Jamalpur village home .
Earlier on Monday night, local residents gathered at Tarakandi Shaheed Minar and brought out separate processions in the locality and distributed sweets, said Rafiqul Islam, organizing secretary of Sarishabari upazila Awami League.
He said that Murad’s behaviour was totally inappropriate and he appreciated the decision of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on the need for him to Jamalpur village home .
