The actor appeared before the court for a hearing and moved a petition as her bail expired
Actor Shamsunnahar Smriti, popularly known by her screen name Pori Moni, has secured a permanent bail order in a narcotics case.
On Sunday, the actor appeared before the court for a hearing and moved a petition as her bail expired.
The prosecution argued against it but Metropolitan Magistrate Satyabrata Sikder granted the actor bail.
The actress was arrested on August 4 after the Rapid Action Battalion conducted a raid at her home in Dhaka’s Banani. The following day she was accused in the narcotics case filed at Banani police station.
She was released from jail on September 1 after nearly a month of her arrest.
On October 4, the investigators filed the chargesheet in the case naming Pori Moni and two others— Ashraful Islam Dipu and Kabir Hossain.
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) detained Pori Moni on August 4 from her Banani flat in Dhaka and seized huge amounts of foreign liquors and different drugs from there.
RAB brought drugs-related charges against Pori Moni and her aide Dipu in the case filed with Banani police station on August 6.
CID Inspector Kazi Mostafa Kamal, who is the investigating officer (IO) in the drugs case, submitted the chargesheet to a Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court.
On September 28, a court asked police to return 16 items including a car, iPhone and laptop to Pori Moni, which were earlier seized from the actress.
The IO on September 26 filed a report, proposing to return the goods, saying it would not hamper the probe.
On August 31, Dhaka Metropolitan Session Judge KM Emrul Kayes granted Pori Moni bail in the case and she was finally released from jail the next day.
